Decorative Grind & Seal
Grind and seal concrete, Caloundra to Brisbane
Grind and seal concrete is the natural stone-in-concrete look. The slab is diamond-ground to expose the aggregate inside it, then sealed with a clear sealer — no colour coat, no flake, just the concrete cleaned up and protected. Tom does it from his base in Caloundra right down to Brisbane.

What you're getting
The stones were in there all along.
Concrete is cement, sand and stone. On a normal slab you only see the smooth cement skin on top. Grinding cuts through that skin with diamond tooling and opens up the aggregate underneath — the flecks of dark, grey and coloured stone in these photos.
Once it's ground, the floor is cleaned and sealed. The sealer protects the concrete, deepens the colour of the stones and gives the finish its sheen.
Because it shows the concrete rather than covering it, the slab decides the final look: what stone is in it, how much, and how evenly it's spread were all set the day it was poured. That's worth talking through when Tom has a look.

The process
How grind and seal gets done.
Look and quote
Tom looks at the slab — its condition and anything already on it, like an old sealer or coating — and quotes for free.
Grind
Diamond grinding back through the surface to expose the aggregate.
Repair and clean
Cracks and holes are filled and the grinding dust cleaned off. On an exposed finish, repairs can show — that's covered at the quote.
Seal
A clear sealer goes on to protect the concrete and bring up the colour of the stone.
Choosing a finish
Grind and seal, or epoxy flake?
Grind & seal
- Shows off the natural stone in the concrete
- Suits a slab in good condition with an even spread of aggregate
- Clear sealed finish — the concrete is the colour
Epoxy flake
- Covers the slab in colour and flake
- Hides stains, patches and repairs
- Layered system: epoxy base coats, flake and a polyaspartic topcoat
Questions
Grind and seal questions.
What is grind and seal concrete?
It's concrete that's been diamond-ground to cut through the surface and expose the stone (aggregate) inside it, then sealed with a clear sealer. The result is a natural stone-in-concrete look rather than a coloured coating.
Can you grind and seal an existing concrete slab?
Often, yes — but the slab decides the look. The stone in it, and how evenly it's spread, were set when it was poured, so an existing slab can't be made to match a photo exactly. Tom can talk you through what to expect once he's seen it.
Can you grind and seal a shed or garage floor?
Yes. The floor in the photos on this page is inside a colourbond shed. Garages and sheds suit it well if you like the look of the concrete itself and the slab is in decent condition.
